Welcome to Katie's Travel Blog. This is really Jenny-doesn't-get-to-travel blog where I (mom) keep track of Katie's adventures so I can have some vicarious enjoyment! Here's a look at what one globally-aware kid from little Santa Cruz, California gets to do these days if her mom's willing to keep working!

Katie took off the youngest of the bunch (almost 14 but not quite) and the crew headed off to the great Down Under. The trip as maybe her best ever - getting older doesn't hurt - and she made great friends, saw fantastic country, loved the locals and got to snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef. She also tasted Kangaroo, held a Koala, cuddled with a Wallaby and saw fireworks over the Sydney Harbor. The itinerary that's written about in the blog isn't exactly what happened, but it's pretty close.

2012:  European Discovery: Italy, Austria, Switzerland and France

Feeling like an experienced traveler (at age 12), Katie had a good - albeit a bit bumpy - trip to Europe. The heat was intense and she ended up getting sick midway through. The home stay wasn't that great but getting to see the Eiffel Tower was a dream come true (she even managed to get lost at the tower adding to the excitement - she was never worried!). From now on, antibiotics will be included in any international travel. That and an extra power converter. The blogs tell the whole story!

2011: Wonders of the Canadian West: Alberta and British Columbia

My little kid - just 11 - wanted to travel internationally so badly, that after reviewing People to People I thought it sounded like a safe way to let her get started. Despite a few bouts of homesickness, she had a fantastic time in the mountains, on the ocean and everywhere in between. It was probably the best thing she'd ever done and started an expensive habit of international travel. The upside, it's expanded her desire to be involved with other cultures, to look at problems from a global perspective and to make new friends regardless of where she goes.

And now there's no excuse when she doesn't clean-up after herself! She's a world traveler!
